City Hall Plaza Canopy Launching 1975
Hampered by wind and rain, the test launching of the brightly colored spiral canopy fails to get fully off the ground at City Hall Plaza in Boston on Feb. 23, 1975. The 55,000-square-feet aerial sculpture was anchored to the three tallest buildings in Government Center. It is designed to cover the plaza on Patriots Day, April 19, when the Bicentennial observations, Boston 200, opens.
