Building The Long Island Bridge 1950

Building The Long Island Bridge 1950

Two men stand on a temporary bridge between Moon Island, background, and Long Island in Boston, September 1950. The abutment, back center, would become part of the Long Island Bridge, which opened August 1951 and connected Long Island to the mainland by way of Moon Island. The viaduct was declared unsafe and condemned in October 2014, and demolition began in January 2015.
