Gun Salute Honors Pres. John F. Kennedy 1963
Detachment of 26th (Yankee) Infantry Division fires the first of periodic volleys from a 105-mm cannon on Boston Common at 7 a.m. on Nov. 22, 1963, to honor President John F. Kennedy. Guns will sound each half-hour until sunset. On the day of the President's funeral, a 21-gun salute will boom at noon over Common and later a 50-gun salute, one for each state.
